make a pitch.

We appreciate your interest in Creative Mage productions. Please understand that we are a small independent publisher, so it is essential that you know your project will suit our publishing program and that you follow the submission guidelines below.

These guidelines outline the steps you need to follow to submit a proposal. Specifically, they help you craft and submit your pitch. If your pitch is approved, we’ll contact you with more specific instructions on how to submit a first draft of your manuscript. By submitting any material to us, you acknowledge and agree to adhere to these Submission Guidelines, including the Terms and Conditions at the end of this document. Please read them carefully.

Step 1: What we’re looking for

We’re looking for ideas for any genre of gaming, drama, or visual art: plays, RPGs, board-games, card games, short stories, graphic novels, illustrations — bring it on. We want anything entertaining and well-written.

If you’re a published author, submit the ideas you’ve hidden under your bed, your midnight experiments that didn’t fit into your genre, and the little things that have no other home. Go wild! Send us your genre-breaking stuff!

If you’re a new writer send in your best, your edgiest, most-thrilling, funniest, or most heart-rending ideas.

Step 2: Send Us Your Best Idea(s)

Write up your pitch and email it to creativepitch@email.com. Here are some rules and advice:

  • For each pitch, give us your best estimate of the word count.

  • Do NOT submit pitches as attachments.

  • Embed them in the body of the email.

  • If you’re submitting content for one of our games, let us know in your pitch.

  • Be concise: a pitch shouldn’t be more than 300 words. Hit the highlights and leave it at that.

  • Proofread every pitch before sending it in. Your writing skill will be judged on the basis of your pitch. If your pitch is full of typos and errors, we will reject it on that basis alone.

  • A successful pitch sparks the imagination. It either presents something wholly original or takes familiar elements and presents or combines them in a new and interesting way.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please advise us if this is the case.

If sending a print version your submission from Canada, enclose a self-addressed, stamped, letter-size envelope. If sending from outside Canada, please provide an e-mail address to which we can reply. The US Postal Service no longer sells International Reply Coupons (IRCs) and we cannot send mail with non-Canadian stamps.

We cannot accept discs or submissions by fax, nor can we discuss concepts over the ‘phone.

Send print submissions to:

Rejection
Do not be discouraged if your pitch gets rejected. The best thing you can do is remain optimistic and keep sending in ideas. Persistence often pays off.

Here are common reasons why a pitch is rejected:

  • It’s poorly written.

  • It’s too similar to stuff we’ve already published or something currently in the works.

  • It doesn’t excite us. (We’re searching for the best content we can find, and if your pitch doesn’t thrill us, we’ll keep looking for something that does.)

Step 3: Be Patient

We will try to respond within six months of receiving your material. If you should like a print confirmation of receipt of your material, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard, which we will drop in the mail upon receipt. Again, this will only work with Canadian postage.

If we like your pitch, we will request:

  1. a chapter by chapter outline for written pieces;

  2. writing credentials;

  3. a 50-page excerpt from the draft; and

  4. a marketing analysis.

If we accept a pitch, it’s because we’re enamoured with the idea and genuinely interested in publishing the piece. If the first draft delivers on the promise of the pitch, there’s a good chance we will publish it. However, acceptance of a pitch does not guarantee acceptance of the manuscript. The piece will ultimately be judged on its own merit.

We also do not accept any submissions previously published by or simultaneously submitted to another magazine, website, or publisher.
